Curriculum Vitae
RICHARD BEATTIE
Background
Richard Beattie aka Dick Amoeba is a film, television and fiction writer. Born in 1962 in Creston, British Columbia, Beattie grew up in a series of small towns scattered throughout BC. He financed his pursuit of higher education by fighting forest fires and prospecting for gold with penny mining companies but dropped out of the engineering program at UBC after only two weeks. Beattie then traveled around the world on a container ship flying the Liberian flag and after several scurrilous misadventures, returned to UBC and completed a B.A. in Political Science in 1985.
Beattie then dropped out of UBC law school before the first day of classes to write a screenplay called Blindside. The screenplay sold. The film was made in 1987 with Harvey Keitel playing the lead. And Beattie began his march to becoming the modern-day Pat Hobby. Beattie has since written for almost every genre in every format of film and television.
As Dick Amoeba he is publishing a series of novels - also in varying genres and styles. He is involved in The Hard Cell - thehardcell.com - a fragrant flower of an artistic collective and creative collaboration with his son Ronan Beattie aka Milbert Smirk aka Monte etc. All is explained in the Opposite Manifesto.
Mr. Amoeba and Mr. Beattie enjoy black and white comic books, eye catching belts, bad things and fine shoes.
